It takes a village to raise a child, but what if the village is traumatized?
HONEST PARENTING AND HOW TO CREATE A SAFE NEST FOR OUR CHILDREN
8-week online journey
Course hours: 8:00 pm to 10 pm, Berlin time
Course language: English
WHY THIS COURSE
As for many things, there is no one-size fits all in parenting as well. There are no bad parents, and perfect parents don't exist either. But there are systems (the village) that impose us ways of doing, and is bombarding us with parentings advices, perspectives, various philosophies, judgmental looks and voices, etc..without taking into account our children’s real needs.
We want our child to be quiet in this queue at the supermarket, to sit and eat perfectly at a table...we just want them to BEHAVE because we, parents and care givers are feeling pressured and judged by our surroundings (the village). So yes, it takes a village and if we want it or not the village in a way is raising our children for us.
But instead of disciplining them, and being highly concerned by their behaviors, what if we cultivate connections with them?
Human beings long for connection, not just in the first few months of life but throughout life, and the center of connection is in our nervous system.
This course is not a new parenting philosophy, nor a way to become a perfect super parent, nor even to add an extra burden to parents, but rather to facilitate our parenting and help us embrace imperfection. It is a nervous system and somatic approach to parenting that aims to provide parents and caregivers with a variety of tools to understand their child's unique needs, develop a relationship, attune to them, build safety in their bodies, that will help them become more resilient in the village.
We will also examine and understand our own values as parents and carers, as well as how our heritages and cultures influence the way we raise children and how we can personalise our parenting, particularly when we live in another culture.
Becoming an honest parent is about learning to release the weight the village puts on us and dancing with "the mistakes". It's about learning to listen to our own nervous system, understanding and respecting it's capacity so we can be more present in bonding with our child. Being an honest parents is about facing our past to build a promissing the future.
